Compare the main Luxor–Aswan routes, cruise lengths, sightseeing patterns, and combined Egypt itineraries before choosing your journey.

01

The two classic Nile cruise directions

Most scheduled Nile cruises operate between Luxor and Aswan. The north-to-south route commonly allows five days and four nights, while the reverse route is often arranged over four days and three nights. The exact schedule depends on the vessel and embarkation day.

  • Luxor to Aswan: usually the more relaxed option, with an extra night on board.
  • Aswan to Luxor: a compact option that suits travellers with a tighter schedule.
  • Both directions normally include Edfu and Kom Ombo, subject to sailing conditions and the confirmed programme.
02

Cruise-only and combined itineraries

A cruise-only booking focuses on the river section and is ideal when flights and hotels are already arranged. Combined packages connect Cairo, domestic transport, the Nile cruise, and sometimes Abu Simbel, Alexandria, the Red Sea, or an oasis.

  • Cruise only: maximum flexibility before and after sailing.
  • Cairo and Nile: a practical first journey for pyramids, museums, temples, and river scenery.
  • Cairo, Nile, and Red Sea: balances cultural touring with beach time.
  • Dahabiya itinerary: smaller-scale sailing with a slower rhythm and possible riverbank stops.

What a well-planned itinerary should confirm

Before paying, ask for the ship name, cabin category, meal plan, transfers, guided visits, entrance tickets, and optional excursions in writing. A clear programme should also show embarkation and disembarkation times so flights or trains can be booked safely.
